Togo’s Ministry of Transport has suspended the ride-hailing app Yango, owned by Russia’s tech giant Yandex, citing security concerns just months after it launched in the country.
In a statement released on Thursday, the ministry announced that Yango, which began operations in June, was operating without proper authorization and in violation of Togo’s regulatory procedures. The suspension was implemented due to concerns about passenger safety, public order, and adherence to legal protocols.
“The activities of the operator YANGO are therefore suspended across the entire national territory,” the statement read.
Yango, in response, clarified that it operates independently from Yandex and is headquartered in Dubai. The company also stated that discussions with the Togolese government are ongoing and expressed confidence that a resolution will be reached to resume its services in the West African nation.
