Türkiye’s national broadcaster, TRT, has launched TRT Somali, a new channel dedicated to providing high-quality news and cultural content in the Somali language. This initiative is part of TRT’s broader global media expansion, which includes broadcasts in over 45 languages.
According to the Somali Embassy in Türkiye, TRT Somali aims to offer reliable news, educational programs, and entertainment to Somali-speaking audiences while fostering stronger cultural and diplomatic ties between Türkiye and Somalia. The channel is expected to serve as a bridge between the two nations, reinforcing their long-standing cooperation.
In addition to Somali, TRT has launched several channels in African languages, including TRT Swahili, which caters to East Africa, and TRT Hausa, which serves West Africa. These efforts highlight Türkiye’s growing media presence across the continent, ensuring diverse African audiences have access to content in their native languages.
