A state-of-the-art AI innovation hub has officially opened its doors at Novation City, Tunisia, signaling a major step forward in the country’s technological and industrial evolution. The hub, aimed at empowering developers across the region, is strategically located in a high-tech park that promotes synergy between the fields of IT, mechanics, and electronics, known as mechatronics. This facility is designed to nurture a collaborative environment where education, research, and industry converge, paving the way for breakthrough innovations in Tunisia and beyond.
The hub, developed in partnership with a prominent deep learning institute, offers a comprehensive range of resources, including advanced training, access to cutting-edge technology, and business networks crucial for fostering AI adoption across Africa. This initiative is part of an ambitious plan to train 100,000 developers across the continent over the next three years, with significant progress already made toward this goal.
Situated in the coastal city of Sousse, Tunisia’s AI hub is surrounded by universities, startups, and organizations with a strong emphasis on STEM education and artificial intelligence. This central location offers unique opportunities for collaboration between academia and the tech industry. Developers will have complimentary access to courses covering vital AI topics such as generative AI, accelerated computing, and data science, all designed to equip them with the skills necessary to meet the growing demand for AI solutions across various sectors.
In addition to its educational offerings, Novation City boasts centers of excellence in AI, Industry 4.0, and smart transportation. These centers provide cutting-edge infrastructure, including access to high-performance computing systems, for startups and researchers who are pushing the boundaries of AI technology. The hub is also a catalyst for growth within the AI ecosystem, organizing a variety of events such as hackathons, workshops, and specialized training programs. These initiatives not only promote innovation but also foster a community of like-minded individuals working to solve complex challenges using AI.
Anas Rochdi, Chief Innovation Officer at Novation City, emphasized the transformative role the hub is playing in advancing AI skills and startups. “With several key AI projects already underway, our partnership with leading institutions has been instrumental in empowering AI-focused startups and enhancing the technical expertise of developers,” he stated. “This year alone, we successfully deployed Tunisia’s first advanced AI system and launched extensive academic collaborations aimed at training over 1,000 developers within the next 12 months.”
The innovation hub is also home to multiple startup accelerator programs that nurture cutting-edge companies working at the forefront of AI and machine learning. Over 10 startups are currently benefiting from this environment, participating in global initiatives that offer mentorship, networking, and resources needed to scale their innovations.
With this launch, Tunisia is positioning itself as a leader in AI development in North Africa.
