A recent visit to Mogadishu, led by Mr. Ferhat Pirinççi, head of Türkiye’s Environmental Agency, focused on advancing environmental cooperation between Türkiye and Somalia. During the visit, Mr. Pirinççi met with Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Bashir Mohamed Jama, to discuss potential collaborations on environmental issues, particularly Türkiye’s successful Zero Waste initiative.
Türkiye’s Zero Waste program, aimed at reducing waste, promoting recycling, and minimizing environmental impact, has been implemented in multiple countries and is regarded as a model for sustainable waste management. The initiative promotes waste segregation, enhances recycling efforts, and increases public awareness about sustainable practices, all with the goal of reducing environmental harm and improving waste management systems.
The program has garnered international recognition for its focus on climate action and waste reduction. Türkiye is actively engaged in promoting sustainable environmental practices worldwide, and the collaboration with Somalia marks an important step in enhancing this shared vision.
Both countries expressed their commitment to further cooperation, and it is expected that a formal agreement will be signed between Türkiye and Somalia’s Ministries of Environment and Climate Change in the near future. This agreement will solidify the growing bilateral relationship, as Türkiye continues to champion environmental sustainability on the global stage.
Türkiye’s commitment to environmental protection and climate action underscores the importance of international collaboration in addressing the pressing environmental challenges of our time.
