The UN and its partners have launched a $6 billion humanitarian and refugee aid appeal for Sudan, aiming to support nearly 26 million people affected by ongoing conflict and displacement. The appeal highlights severe food shortages, widespread violence, and a growing refugee crisis in neighboring countries.
Nearly two years of fighting have displaced 12 million people within Sudan and across borders. Humanitarian agencies warn that famine is worsening, with catastrophic hunger reported in several regions, including Darfur and the Nuba Mountains. Aid efforts aim to provide food, healthcare, shelter, and education to millions in urgent need.
A $4.2 billion plan will target 21 million vulnerable people inside Sudan, while an additional $1.8 billion will support 4.8 million refugees in nearby countries such as Chad, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and Egypt. Officials stress the need for immediate funding to prevent further suffering, warning that without aid, food insecurity and the collapse of health services could worsen.
