The government of Somalia reported today that over 19 AlShabaab militants have been eliminated in a successful operation carried out by government forces with the support of international partners in the country’s central regions.
The Ministry of Information verified in a news release that the Somali National Army (SNA) launched a two-pronged operation aimed against militant strongholds with the support of foreign allies.
The first procedure, which lasted more than twenty-four hours, was performed at Geed Ma’arke, a village in Middle Shabelle’s Ruunirgood district. It was said that militants had used this area to get ready for an impending strike. The government reported that 14 insurgents were killed during the operation by fast approaching Somali forces.
The second raid went after a roadblock in EL Helle, where travelers were being blackmailed by militants. Five more AlShabaab fighters were slain during this battle.
Furthermore, a water tanker and a number of armored trucks that the terrorists had taken over were destroyed by Somali forces.
According to the Ministry of Information, these actions demonstrate the government’s continued dedication to eliminating the threat presented by militants affiliated with Al-Shabaab. “The Somali National Army, in cooperation with brave Somali citizens and our international allies, will continue its efforts until the Khawarij are fully eliminated,” the statement added.
The operations are a part of a drive to secure central Somalia, where civilians have been living disrupted for years by militant activities. According to the administration, a more concerted effort to undermine militant networks is anticipated in the upcoming weeks.
