The United States has imposed visa restrictions on government officials in South Sudan and other individuals impeding the distribution of humanitarian supplies.
One of the main challenges, according to the State Department, is the imposition of fees on aid supplies.
South Sudan, which is dealing with a serious humanitarian crisis brought on by poverty, natural disasters, and violence, has come under fire for obstructing relief efforts.
According to State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, “despite assurances, the government has yet to effectively reduce the unacceptably high costs, bureaucratic obstacles, and risks of providing humanitarian assistance.”
According to UN reports, a tax issue is causing South Sudanese authorities to delay fuel tankers, thus compromising the delivery of relief.
Miller voiced concerns on the government’s dedication to enabling humanitarian aid, as specified in the 2018 peace accord.
The targeted persons will not be able to enter the United States due to the visa restrictions.
