The World Food Programme (WFP) has temporarily suspended food distribution in the Zamzam camp in North Darfur amid escalating violence in Sudan. The camp, which is home to thousands of people facing severe food shortages, has been repeatedly attacked by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) as they struggle to seize control from the military and its allies.
As the largest provider of food aid in Sudan, WFP’s operations are critical to those affected by the ongoing conflict. However, the deteriorating security situation has made it unsafe to continue distributions in the famine-stricken camp. The pause in aid comes as fighting intensifies across the country, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
