The international break has ended, and the 5th and 6th round matches of the World Cup qualifiers in Africa have been completed.
Morocco Dominates Tanzania in Group E
In Group E, Morocco faced Tanzania. From the very start, Morocco dominated the game. In the 51st minute, after a corner kick, a deflected ball from the goalkeeper was finished by Nayef Aguerd, putting Morocco 1-0 ahead.
Around seven minutes later, Morocco won a penalty, and Real Madrid‘s young talent Brahim Diaz converted it to double the lead. The match ended 2-0, securing Morocco’s fifth win in five games, bringing their total to 15 points.
With this result, they extended their lead at the top of the group to nine points. They have now won 10 consecutive matches and seem to have made winning a habit.
Algeria Crushes Mozambique in Group G
Meanwhile, another strong team in the tournament, Algeria, hosted Mozambique at home. In Group G, these two teams were competing for the top spot, but Algeria proved to be far superior.
They crushed Mozambique with a 5-1 victory. The star of the match was VfL Wolfsburg forward Mohamed El Amine Amoura, who scored a hat-trick.
Algeria’s other goals came from Jaouen Hadjam and Aïssa Mandi. Mozambique managed to score through Geny Catamo, but they couldn’t put up much resistance against Algeria.
Despite the heavy defeat, Mozambique remains second in the group with 12 points and still has a chance to qualify as group leaders if Algeria drops points. However, with 15 points, Algeria seems determined not to let that happen.
Senegal and DR Congo Continue Their Race for Top Spot in Group B
In Group B, the race for the top spot continues. Both Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo secured victories, making the standings even tighter.
DR Congo won 2-0 away against Mauritania, while Senegal defeated Togo 2-0 at home.
After six matches, DR Congo leads the group with 13 points, but Senegal and Sudan are close behind with 12 points each, eager to take the lead. A clear gap has formed between these three teams and the rest of the group.
