The 27-year-old Ethiopian athlete Yomif Kejelcha, a two-time indoor 3000m champion in his previous races, broke another world record in the half marathon held in Valencia, Spain.
It took him just 57 minutes and 30 seconds to complete the race. Five years ago, Yomif Kejelcha had also set the indoor mile world record in another competition. Despite this being only his sixth half marathon, he managed to achieve such a remarkable feat.
The athlete started the race at a fast pace and significantly increased his speed during the final three kilometers. The previous record holder was the Ugandan athlete Jacob Kiplimo, and Yomif Kejelcha broke his record by just one second in this race.
The successful athlete had previously finished sixth in the 10,000m at the Paris Olympics. Meanwhile, in the women’s race, Kenyan athlete Agnes Ngetich won with a time of 63:04, securing the second-fastest time in world history.
