Kagiso Rabada has become the 39th player to take 300 Test wickets. Only 5 South African cricketers have achieved this milestone before him. He accomplished this feat by taking 3 wickets on the first day of the first Test against Bangladesh.
What makes Rabada’s achievement remarkable is his age and career. He reached this milestone in just 65 Test matches. While he ranks 7th in terms of matches played to reach 300 wickets, he set a world record by achieving it with only 11,817 deliveries. This is 785 balls fewer than Pakistani legend Waqar Younis.
Rabada also became the 8th youngest player to reach this milestone. At just 28 years old, the South African cricketer appears to have many more years of cricket ahead of him.
“I was more focused on how we were going to win this Test, especially after losing the toss and bowling first,” Rabada said afterwards.
“But when it happened, it was just a relief. Everyone plays for milestones, but it was a relief.”
“It’s a special moment. As for the record, I didn’t know about it, but I guess it motivates me to do even better.”
