There were rumors that Zamalek, one of Egypt’s most powerful and historic clubs, was interested in signing South African right-winger Percy Tau. The 30-year-old player currently plays for Zamalek’s league rival, Al Ahly.
Ahmed Suleiman, a member of Zamalek’s board of directors, denied any interest in the player, stating:
“Currently, no one at the club is thinking about signing players from Al Ahly, just as Al Ahly is not considering signing players from us.”
He further added:
“No player joins Zamalek without José Gomes being fully convinced. As a board, we cannot impose a player on the coach.”
There has also been significant media speculation that Percy Tau might return to South Africa. The lack of interest from Zamalek could potentially indicate that the South African player may indeed head back to his homeland.
Percy Tau’s team, Al Ahly, is currently leading the Egyptian league with 8 points. Last season, they finished first in the league, with Tau contributing 7 goals throughout the campaign.
