Rescue operations are ongoing in Zambia’s Mumbwa District after a mine pit collapse left 10 people dead and five injured, police reported on Monday.
The police stated that a group of miners had gone to work at the pit earlier that day when the ground suddenly caved in, trapping several of them beneath the rubble.
Efforts are currently focused on rescuing any miners who may still be trapped under the debris.
Local politician Collins Nzovu assured that all necessary assistance would be provided, and a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the accident.
