Zambia will host the 4th Land-Linked Conference from April 10-11 to boost trade and improve transport corridors across Africa. Announcing the event, Zambia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Tayali, emphasized the importance of strong land connectivity for Africa’s economic growth.
Driving Integration Through AfCFTA
Minister Tayali stressed that improving transport corridors is essential as Africa deepens its integration under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He highlighted that efficient transport systems will increase intra-African trade, reduce costs, and enhance supply chains. Tayali added that better connectivity will make it easier for businesses to operate across borders, promoting investment and economic development.
Improved corridors can also cut transit times, lower operational costs, and increase trade volumes. Tayali noted that these changes would benefit local communities by creating jobs and reducing poverty, contributing to sustainable growth across the region.
Zambia as a Hub for Smart Transport Solutions
Under the theme “Embracing Smart Transport Corridors in Africa,” the conference will reinforce Zambia’s role as a regional transport and logistics hub. By adopting smart solutions, Zambia aims to enhance efficiency and attract investment while strengthening its position in southern Africa.
The event will bring together policymakers, industry experts, and investors to explore how technology can improve transport systems. Key topics include the use of intelligent transport systems, real-time tracking, and data analytics to enhance corridor performance. These innovations will make logistics more efficient, safer, and cost-effective.
Tayali pointed out that smart corridors will unlock new trade opportunities, attract foreign investment, and improve regional connectivity. These advancements will help Zambia and neighboring countries compete effectively in the global marketplace.
Strengthening Africa’s Position in Global Trade
The conference will also highlight how modern transport systems can transform Africa’s trade landscape. Efficient corridors can reduce delays, minimize costs, and enable faster movement of goods. These improvements will make African countries more competitive in global trade.
As Lusaka prepares to welcome participants from across the continent, the event reflects Africa’s commitment to building a more connected and prosperous future. By enhancing its transport networks, Africa is laying the foundation for stronger economic ties and a more competitive global presence.
