Zanzibar’s Minister for Tourism and Heritage, Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga, has emphasized the importance of the upcoming Tourism and Investment Expo, scheduled for October 25 and 26, in enhancing the island’s reputation as a premier tourism destination. The event aims to strengthen Zanzibar’s appeal, connect industry stakeholders, and showcase investment opportunities in various sectors.
During the Zanzibar Traditional Cuisine Show, Soraga expressed optimism about the festival’s potential to attract international participants from countries like Germany, France, and the United Kingdom, along with neighboring African nations. He noted that Zanzibar’s rising status in global tourism reflects growing interest in the island’s unique opportunities for both tourism and business development.
Soraga also stressed the significance of promoting local festivals, viewing them as crucial for economic growth. He highlighted the role of culinary tourism, especially Zanzibar’s traditional cuisine, which he described as both healthy and culturally significant. He encouraged locals to reconnect with their food traditions, as Western culinary influences have increasingly shaped eating habits on the island.
Tourism Commissioner Wilfred Shirima echoed Soraga’s sentiments, adding that the expo will shine a light on Zanzibar’s diverse investment opportunities, including beach tourism, ecotourism, and cultural heritage tourism. Additionally, Dr. Mwatima Abdallah Juma, Director of Msonge Farm, discussed the growing demand for organic farming within the tourism industry, stating that many visitors are keen to learn about Zanzibar’s traditional food and agricultural practices.
Dr. Juma mentioned that organic farms in the region are offering hands-on classes for tourists, providing an educational experience while promoting sustainable practices among local farmers.
