Zimbabwe is confronting a new cholera outbreak. The Ministry of Health and Child Care reported 44 confirmed cases since November last year. On Tuesday night, officials noted 10 new suspected cases, while the number of confirmed deaths remains at two.
This development follows an 18-month-long cholera crisis that ended just three months ago. According to the World Health Organization, the previous outbreak resulted in 718 deaths, with 87 confirmed through lab tests.
Recurring cholera outbreaks highlight Zimbabwe’s ongoing issues with poor sanitation and contaminated drinking water. Inadequate sanitation facilities and limited access to clean water increase the risk of cholera and other waterborne diseases.
Addressing these infrastructure challenges is crucial. Improving sanitation and ensuring clean water sources can prevent future outbreaks and protect public health.
